Web 1.0 hardware

I have a few relics from web 1.0 in my garage.

In the mid 90’s, I was working as a designer and print production manager. I was familiar with various Internet tools including the text-based web browser Lynx. One day, a co-worker told me about this “other” web client that displayed pictures… which sounded way more exciting than the CD-ROMs we were producing.

We wanted to experiment with this new technology. At first, we tried setting up Linux on an old 486, but that was only good for running the eyeballs and calculator apps, at the time. I think my co-worker tracked down an old NeXT cube, and I purchased an old Sun SPARCstation ELC.

In the late 90’s Solaris x86 started getting some momentum, but linux eventually consumed that entire space. At this point I may need to power up my old Sun hardware, and transfer interesting files to a thumb drive.
